RECENT EVENTS

WHO: Kindergarten

WHAT: Puddlestompers came to Sprague Kindergarten to take the kindergartners on a journey through spring! They learned that seeds are the fruit from plants. They explored the grounds of Sprague looking for acorns, baby saplings, and identifying different types of bugs and snails. They were introduced to different animal habitats and even saw a chipmunk home!

To continue nature exploration at home, Grow a Sprout Jar and create a butterfly garden! The details were sent home in backpack mail.

Summer reading books can include, Jack’s Garden by Henry Cole, The Dandelion Seed by Joseph Anthony and How a Seed Grows by Helene Gordon.

Educational learning websites include,
http://www.familyeducation.com/, http://www.offwell.free-online.co.uk/index.htm, and http://www.thegardenhelper.com/

WHO: 1st Grade

WHAT: Ask your first grader how many neck bones does an owl have? What do falcons and baseball/football players have in common? Our first graders learned the answers to those questions and so much more. Children welcomed Wingmaster Jim and four of his friends, an American Kestrel Falcon, Eastern Screech Owl, Red-Tailed Hawk, and Great Horned Owl. Kids learned about the different characteristics of the amazing birds of prey, their hunting methods and habitats. No question was left unanswered.
