FEBRUARY MEETING NOTES

CALLING ALL PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH IEPS

Do you know about the Wellesley SEPAC, often just called the PAC? The state of Massachusetts requires all public school districts to establish a SEPAC, which stands for Special Education Parent Advisory Council.  The PAC represents all families of children with disabilities from the entire district.

Run entirely by parents of children who receive special education services, the Wellesley PAC plays an important support role to parents and also advises the district on topics pertaining to children with disabilities.

If your child has an IEP or 504 please participate by:

  • completing this DESE Survey by March 1st to provide feedback to the state on WPS’ special education services
  • joining the next PAC meeting on Thursday March 7th 9am - 10:30a (stay as long as works for you) at the home of Christine Mizzi (16 Suffolk Rd)
  • check out the resources from the Wellesley PAC and join the Google Group to stay informed and connected
  • Reach out to Sprague PAC rep Nicole Katz or pacwellesley@gmail.com if you would like to learn more
WALK, RIDE & ROLL TO SCHOOL

Can you volunteer for 45 minutes to help with Sprague Walk, Bike or Roll to School? This monthly event is a great tradition and the kids love collecting their footies!

Volunteer time 7:45 - 8:30am. Volunteers help with table setup, assisting kids with signing in, and table breakdown.

Our next Walk, Ride & Roll to school is March 7th

SHOPPERS CORNER AT SCHOFIELD

Did you know Shopper’s Corner is a unique resale shop located right in the basement of Schofield Elementary School? The shop sells new and gently used clothing and accessories from infant through adult.

Not only do they promote sustainability, their prices are rock bottom: items start at $1 and most are less than $5!

The store is open during the school year every Wednesday that school is in session from 8:30am to 12:15pm and the first Saturday of most months from 9am to 11am.

SPRAGUE SPRING AUCTION

Looking for a way to help? In addition to gift card donations from local shops and restaurants, we are still seeking Corporate Sponsors for the Auction

Please consider reaching out to your company to ask if they would like to support Sprague!

Contact our Auction Chairs,

Bryanne Tartamella (bryanne.tartamella@gmail.com) &

CREATIVE ARTS & SCIENCES

Our Creative Arts & Sciences team has been hard at work, organizing events for each grade that align with CAS curriculum. In addition to the brief update in the Pulse, updates with more pictures will be posted to our website each week.

RECENT EVENTS

Before February break, Puppet Showplace visited our first graders for a funny and engaging puppet show, "The Pied Piper of Hamelin," which perfectly coincided with the science unit on shadows. The students laughed and asked many questions relating to the story, the puppeteers' storytelling process, shadows and how the puppets and set were made.

Ask your first grader:

- What problem did the town have?

- How did the Pied Piper solve the town's big problem?

- What are the 3 components needed to make a shadow?

WELLESLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL 8TH GRADE - HOUSE UNPLUGGED

Earlier this month, Wellesley Middle School 8th graders enthusiastically presented their House Unplugged projects where they researched and built prototypes of homes designed to produce net-zero emissions.

In addition, during Wellesley High School Seminar Day, students will be embarking on a postcard writing campaign to MA legislators about climate action & environmental justice bills.  Many of our students are not old enough to vote so please help their voices get heard by voting locally and beyond for candidates that support your values.

Election Day is Tuesday, March 5th and polls will be open 7am - 8pm. Early Vote by Mail (VBM) and Absentee Ballot applications are available online NOW until 5:00pm on Tuesday, February 27th.  See the Town Clerk's Website for more information.
