CREATIVE ARTS AND SCIENCES

Our Creative Arts & Sciences team has been hard at work, organizing events for each grade that align with CAS curriculum. In addition to the brief update in the Pulse, updates with more pictures will be posted to our website each week. View CAS Updates.

RECENT CAS EVENTS

Ask your THIRD GRADER about Plimoth Patuxet People's of the Dawn Land in-class presentation! Last Monday, an Indigenous museum educator discussed Wampanoag People's relationship to the land, respect for all living beings, and seasonal ways of life.

Ask your KINDERGARTENER about their first CAS event! Last Monday, they had an in-class presentation about weather given by staff of the Discovery Museum! Our kindergarteners learned about the important role weather plays in daily life, the practice of using science and engineering by developing tools for forecasting and observing day-to-day changes and seasonal patterns over time.

UPCOMING CAS EVENTS

WHEN: October 25th

GRADE: 4th

WHAT: Natural Resource Commission's Lisa Moore will take the 4th graders out for a nature walk to look for evidence of weathering, erosion, and deposition around the Sprague school. They will talk a bit about the geologic history of Wellesley and how that relates to oil soil and the types of rocks we find here.

***

WHEN: October 27th

GRADE: 1st

WHAT: Lisa Moore will take the 1st graders out on their very first "field trip" around the Sprague school campus to observe evidence of plant and animal adaptations to season changes. This will add to their ongoing observations of the trees near their classrooms.

LOOKING AHEAD
JOIN THE SPRAGUEWELL SPELLING BEE TEAM

WHEN: November 8th at 7 p.m

WHERE: Wellesley High School

The Wellesley Spelling Bee is an exciting, educational community event that raises money for WEF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching, enhancing and supporting Wellesley’s public schools. WEF is grateful for the generous and faithful support we receive from the community.

The teams are made up of 3 participants and those groups included teachers, parents, principals, and in the older grades, students.  It is truly a fun event!

If you are interested in participating, please email spraguepto@gmail.com- we will put together a team (or more) based on responses.

WGS GREEN TIP OF THE MONTH

Have a GREEN Halloween

You know the scariest part of Halloween? Buying a new costume when there are so many hiding in the back of our closets that have only been worn for a few hours!

Bring Dorothy, Harry Potter, and those Ninja Turtles back to life - you’ll feel good that your closet is cleaner and Mother Nature will thank you for cutting down on waste! Consider donating using the Facebook groups Wellesley Give and Take and/or Buy Nothing Wellesley, MA (must be Wellesley Resident). You can even post an "In Search Of" (ISO) if you are looking for a specific costume. Other options are: RDF Take-It-Or-Leave-It rack, the Schofield Shoppers Corner (open Wed. 8:30-noon) or the Sprague PTO Costume Sale (drop box at 9 Avon Rd) .

Don't wait to donate!!! Questions? contact michelleofoster@aol.com
